Based on the short story “Super-Toys Last All Summer Long” by Brian Aldiss, Warner Bros.’ 2001 science-fiction drama A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE was originally conceived as a Pinocchio-esque fairy tale by Stanley Kubrick. Programmed to love unconditionally, David, a child robot, is abandoned when the human son he’s replaced miraculously returns home. David’s ensuing odyssey of self-discovery endures as one of Spielberg’s most groundbreaking films, a darkly poetic story of 21st-century identity.

John Williams’ otherworldly score is not only crucial in establishing A.I.’s brave new world, it keeps us firmly hand-in-hand with David on his extraordinary journey. One of the Maestro’s most innovative opuses, this crucial entry in Williams’ catalog compelled Spielberg to name him, “the greatest musical storyteller of all time.”
